My name is Akerele Oluwatoyosi Florence. Stagename- Toyocee

(2) For those hearing of you for the first time, how would you describe yourself as an artist?  

I’m an extra-ordinary artiste who is not confined by genre…I do my music as it naturally comes to me but majorly, I do RnB fused with pop

(3) How long have you been involved in making Music?

3 years

(4) How did you get into Music? And what inspired you to take music seriously?

Music has always been my passion but I got really serious with it in my first year at the University of Ibadan where I did a live performance alongside a guitarist. Coupled with my passion for music, the amazing response I got that day inspired me to take music more seriously

(5) Where do you get Inspiration for your Music?

From situations and people around me

(6) Are you signed to a record label?

No,I’m not

(7) What is life like as an UpComing Artist?

Life as an upcoming artist is not easy. One has to deal with facing rejections,people not taking you seriously,it’s also quite expensive and for unsigned artists like me, very rough but above all, keeping my head up high has been helpful

(8) Have you done an album yet? If no, have you got any project you’re working on at the moment?

No but I’m currently working on more wonderful tracks and collaborations with some A-list artists

(9) What is it about you that sets you apart from other artists?

My voice,my personality,my approach to music which is driven by my passion for music as I take music as a very important aspect of my life

(10) What has been the highlight of your career so far?

The first one was when I got selected for the annual Teey-mix AprilTunes Competition and emerged Top 10. Another was when I won the Coke studio competition in Ibadan quite recently

(11) If you had to work with one person in the industry, who would it be and why?

Wande Coal because his vocal prowess is out of the world yet he knows how to carry people along with his lyrics

(12) Besides music, what other activities do you participate in?

Asides music,its just school activities

In 5years time, I see myself at the very top, as a force to reckon with in the Nigerian music industry

(16) What is your opinion of the current state of Nigerian music?

The current Nigerian music industry is way better from what it was in the past when music wasn’t even appreciated. The platform has been created already and it’s now left to the artistes to ride on the oars what is on ground. Nigerian music is in good state now but it can always be better which is where I come in to contribute my quota by dishing out irresistible music and setting a standard

(18) What is the greatest thing about working in the music industry? And what would you change if you had the opportunity?

D greatest thing is the love and appreciation from the fans,which is always refreshing,inspiring and motivating. If I had the opportunity,I would change d artiste / Fans relationship,I really don’t like the distance between artists and their fans since these people make us who we are,there should be a way of getting back to them.It’s a difficult one to achieve but nothing is impossible

(19) Throughout your career so far, what’s the best advice that someone has given you? And what advice would you give to fellow UpComing artists?

Talent is never enough without hard work. My advice to other upcoming artistes is to keep doing their thing,keep praying and step out of their comfort zone.

(20) What do you think about what the “Alaba Hits” company is doing for all the upcoming artists, promoting their music?

I think what Alaba hits is doing for upcoming artists is incredible.They’re giving upcoming artistes a voice to be heard by all which is wonderful and worthy of commendation
