(1) What’s your Name?

Ans: My name is Thomas Ntul but am known as Xclaim

(2) For those hearing of you for the first time, how would you describe yourself as an artist?  

Ans: Xclaim is a multi genre artiste with Afro pop as his major, a skilled song writer and producer, vocal director, recording artiste and performer.

(3) How long have you been involved in making Music?

Ans: I have been into music from my secondary school days since 2002

(4) How did you get into Music? And what inspired you to take music seriously?

Ans: Well, I have always been a noise maker in class, and my friends enjoy listening to me sing, so I started visiting studios to try myself out I wanted to hear what I sounded like on tape. That is how it all started for me.

(5) Where do you get Inspiration for your Music?

Ans: I get inspired by virtually everything around me, my daily activities, experiences and most importantly God

(6) Are you signed to a record label?

Ans: I am an independent artiste for now, so I don’t have a label yet.  

(7) What is life like as an UpComing Artist?

Ans: I would say, tough rough, challenging, but I love the experience, it is what all aspiring artiste go through to be better at the art.

(8) Have you done an album yet? If no, have you got any project you’re working on at the moment?

Ans: I am currently working on my album project with different artistes and producers; we are keeping the title a secret for now till when its necessary to divulge.

(9) What is it about you that sets you apart from other artists?

Ans: I would say my personality, Charisma and Skill set. I don’t believe in failure, impossibility is nothing to me.

(10) What has been the highlight of your career so far?

Ans: We I just shot a video for my official single YUNG BOSS, it will be out on air soon, and we hoping to roll pout from there.

(11) If you had to work with one person in the industry, who would it be and why?

Ans: I would choose 2face anytime any day, because asides the fact that he is very good and consistent in the art; he is what I describe as humble, encouraging, role model and legend.

(12) Besides music, what other activities do you participate in?

Ans: I am a martial artist, and a student of Nigerian College of Administration.

(14) What are your biggest challenges?

Ans: My Biggest challenge is financing my Project as an independent artiste, everyone wants to rip you off.

(15) Where do you see yourself five years from now?

Ans: In the next five years, I would have etched my name in the sands of time, become that role model for others to look up to, be a label owner and help younger artiste actualize their dreams.

(16) What is your opinion of the current state of Nigerian music?

Ans: The Nigerian Music Industry has opened us to the world, we are actually better and still getting there, we have better quality songs and videos, and we have been able to carve an enviable turf for the world to see.

(17) Any plans to expand across Africa and the world?

Ans: That is actually every artiste dream, for their music to get the desired recognition across the globe, so mine is not any different. In fact I have done some featuring with some South African artiste set for release soon.

(18) What is the greatest thing about working in the music industry? And what would you change if you had the opportunity?

Ans: Well working in the music Industry has taken me places, it has given me some level of exposure, I have enjoyed the love from people who see my music as great and irresistible, and I pay some of my bills with it. So it’s been fun as regards that aspect. Notwithstanding, I would wish things where done properly, where artiste get royalties for their creative works and not the other way round, where Radio stations charge exorbitant rates to play our works it’s absurd and a problem killing the younger artiste.

(19) Throughout your career so far, what’s the best advice that someone has given you? And what advice would you give to fellow UpComing artists?  

Ans: I have had lots of people give me career advice but the best so far, is telling me to be original, to be hardworking and consistent and never give up trying.

(20) What do you think about what the “Alaba Hits” company is doing for all the upcoming artists, promoting their music?

Ans: I think it is very commendable, and I would wish some more companies will do same to help the younger artiste achieve their dreams.

Born in Kano, Xclaim, in his 20s, is originally from Cross River State. He spent his teenage years in Onitsha and currently lives in Lagos, thus making him a fluent speaker of the major Nigerian languages.

From voice-over to penning songs for fellow artistes, budding R&B singer, Thomas Motashu, popularly known as Xclaim, is no stranger to music. Thus it may not be strange for him to take the next big step, which is stepping out of the background and plunging fully into the spotlight.
